Alexander (Alex) Chancellor Mounger of Jackson, Mississippi, died November 27, 2023, at age 50. Alex
was born in Jackson, MS on August 17, 1973, to Carol Anne and William H. (Bill) Mounger, Jr. He
attended Madison-Ridgeland High School and graduated from high school at The Education Center
School in Jackson. He also attended Hinds Community College for a year and underwater diving school
in Morgan City, LA
Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Anne Chancellor. He is survived by his father and
stepmother, William H. (Bill) and Denise Mounger, Jr. of Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by two
children, Caitlin Alexis Mounger and Alexander Briggs Mounger of Flora and a stepdaughter, Christian
Ables Jamison (Joshua) of Clinton; by two grandchildren, Leighla and Carter Grimme; and one step-
granddaughter, Christina Baluta.
Four siblings also survive Alex: William H. (Will) Mounger, III (Monica) of Taipei, Taiwan, Caroline McBee
Mounger of Austin, TX, Emily Mounger Jensen (Gary) of Atlanta, GA, and Mary Kathryn Mounger
Sciarretta (Jason) of Atlanta and by seven nieces and nephews.
Alex loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and other outdoor activities
One of the highlights of his life was his attendance at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, as
a Boy Scout. Described as a tough and "gutsy" guy with a great attitude, he hiked the 50-mile trail two
consecutive years and helped work on some of the trails at Philmont.
Alex is remembered as a kind friend who possessed a contagious laugh and who was always ready for an
adventure. Alex worked for several years as a house painter. He also enjoyed reading and drawing.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg, MS on Monday, December
18, 2023. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with the service to begin at 2:00 PM. A brief graveside service
will follow at Cedar Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Vicksburg Affiliate of the National Alliance on
Mental Illness, c/o Harriette Mastin, 11880 Hwy. 61 South, Vicksburg MS 39180 or to the Boy Scouts of
America or your local Boy Scout Troop.
