Arthur Lamar Roberts died Saturday, December 22, 2018.He was born July 1, 1940 in Satartia, Ms, to Morris and Marcile (McKee) Roberts.Mr. Roberts had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1973.After 35 years in the mobile home industry he retired as Vice-President of Cappaert Manufactured Housing.Mr. Roberts owned and operated the Gray and Blue Naval Museum, Vicksburg Battlefield Museum and worked toward opening the Old Depot Museum in the old Vicksburg Depot.He was a Life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, serving as a Mississippi Division Commander and as Emeritus Member of the Board of Directors of Beauvoir.He also served the Military Order Of Stars and Bars as Chapter Commander, Mississippi Society Commander, Councilman of Army of Tennessee, and Commander of Army of Tennessee.Mr. Roberts received many awards from both organizations.He was a Member of the Bonnie Blue Society, a charter member of the Vicksburg Genealogical Society and served several terms as President, member of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors and spent many years with the youth sport programs in Vicksburg.Mr. Roberts was a member of Oakland Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Youth Director and as a Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Patsy Ann Roberts and abrother Morris Basil Roberts.
He is survived by his wife Roma Sue Roberts, three children:son, Edwin Morris (Shelley) Roberts of Vicksburg, two daughters, Patricia Gail Jobe, Roma Annette (Winston) Cutrer, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 12:00 at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating.Visitation will be from 10:00 until the hour of service.
In lieu of Flowers donations are to be made to the Oakland Baptist Church Building Fund for a Family Life Center.
