Mrs. Betty Moseley Shell died Tuesday, at St. Catherine's Village, Madison, MS. She was 96. Mrs. Shell was born in Saltville, VA, the daughter of the late Carlton and Violet Moseley. Mrs. Shell was preceded in death by her son, Carlton Grey Shell, and by her husband, Dr. John Robert Shell. The Shells lived in Vicksburg for over 35 years. While there, Mrs. Shell was active in many local and charitable organizations including serving as president of the Junior Auxiliary, Chair of the Library Board, and a long-time leader of UMYF youth at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, among others. She was active in after-school tutoring for Vicksburg public schools.
Mrs. Shell is survived by two sons, John Robert Shell, Jr. (Linda) of Charlotte, NC and James Randal Shell (Mary) of Ridgeland MS; three grandchildren: John Blakely Shell (Eleanor) of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Janeanna Shell Heath (Landon) of Athens, GA, and James Randal Shell, Jr. (Peyton) of Jackson, MS; six great grandchildren, Charles Ritchey Shell, Jacob Edward Shell, Blakely Ruth Shell, Landon Hurston Heath, Jr., Robert Miles Heath, and James Randal Shell, III. A private graveside service will be held under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Children's of Mississippi, 2500 North State Street, Jackson MS 39216.
