Obituary

Billy Joe Tarver, age 72, passed away Jan. 25, 2024, at the VA Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was born in Bastrop, LA, April 20, 1951, to Henry Frank and Laura Edna Tarver. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jimmy Tarver, and nephew, Shannon Tarver. He is survived by his siblings Evelyn Langstaff and Henry Tarver (Vicki); his children, Sabrina Dalton, Joseph, Thomas and Samantha Tarver; his grandchildren, Amelia, River, Ryder, and Olivia; great grandchildren, Luna and Anna Kate; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all whom he loved dearly.

Billy Joe retired in 2005 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District where he served as party chief of the geotech boring and drilling crew.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam as a Huey helicopter door gunner in the 1st Cavalry Division from 1969 - 1972, receiving a Bronze Star and Air Medal. His military service impacted him greatly, imparting pride for our country and patriotism within the family.

As an avid motorcyclist, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his good friend, C.L. Nevels. He also rode with the Patriot Guard.

Working in his yard planting trees and flowers, tinkering with things to make them work, and playing with his dogs, Buster and Rocky, were some of his favorite pastimes.

Billy Joe knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and trusted Him through his final battle here on earth. His favorite character in the Bible was Job, because of his strong faith.

The family is forever grateful and thankful for the meticulous care and love shown to Billy Joe by the staff of the Community Living Center, VA Hospital.
