Obituary

Brenda Moonyeen Jones Wright passed away Wednesday, March 8, at the age of 82.

Brenda was born Nov 15, 1939 in New Orleans, LA and lived in Vicksburg, MS. She graduated from Jett High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, Billy Gene, in 1958. They began their life together stationed in San Diego with the US Navy before settling in Yokena, MS to raise their four children. Brenda was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

After retiring from Waterways Experiment Station as an Engineering Technician, she and Billy Gene began their adventures. They traveled the country together and with friends, going everywhere from New York to California and in between. One of their favorite spots was Mountain View, AR where they would sit on the square and listen to music several times a year. They also had the privilege of playing there.

Brenda played the piano and learned to play the bass guitar. She and Billy Gene formed the Wright Road Band. They played at church, nursing homes and Levi's Gathering Place. When they were not playing, they enjoyed their weekends at Levi's listening to the music and dancing. Tuesday became "pickin and grinnin" night at their home.

Brenda, also known as Mama, Grandma, Aunt Brenda, Miss Brenda and Mrs. Wright, had a great spirit and wonderful sense of humor that will not be forgotten. She had a servant's heart and took care of everyone around her. She was known for her great cooking, especially her famous cornbread muffins. She hosted many events at their home in Yokena over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Lafayette Monroe "L.M" Jones, Jr.; a sister, Judy Jones; and a brother Lafayette Monroe "Jerry" Jones, III.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Billy Gene Wright; a brother, James Richard "Jimmy" Jones (Ann); a sister, Charlene Goodwin; two sons, Andy Wright of Vicksburg, Danny Wright of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Kim East (Larry) of Baton Rouge and Candi Freitag (Rob) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
