Carlis Ann Miller Abney, age 69, of Vicksburg, MS lost her second battle with Cancer on August 13, 2018 in her home surrounded by her husband and children.She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was born on February 28, 1949 to the late Lewis M. Miller Sr. and Willie B. Taylor Miller.
Carlis followed in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Bessie Wilson Taylor, to become a tax practitioner.She studied accounting at the University of Southern Mississippi before earning her EA license to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. She was the owner of Taylors Audit & Tax Service.She loved her practice and her clients dearly.
Carlis always had a smile on her face and a Coca Cola in her hand.She loved spending time with her family and friends at Lake Bruin and her home in the country.She brought love and joy to all who knew her. In 2016 she professed her love of the Lord and was Baptized at Lighthouse Baptist Church.
As a child she met the love of her life, James E. Abney.They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 2017.She was very proud of their two daughters Julie Ann Speights (Ric) of Lake Charles, LA and Margaret Ann Brewer of Madison, MS as well as her five grandchildren: Kayley Speights, Trey Speights, Abney Ann Brewer, Noah Speights and Macey Brewer and one great grandchild,Cooper Speights.
Carlis was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Carrie Paul Miller, her sister Peggy Jean Miller and her beloved niece Stacey Miller Fewell.She is survived by her loving husband, daughters and grandchildren, her beloved brother Lewis M. Miller Jr & Sister-in-law Carolyn Bland Miller of Vicksburg, her sisters Diane Miller Klaus (Ken) of Vicksburg, Connie Miller (Monte Pearson) of Brandon, MS, Renee Miller of Brandon, MS and Cindy Miller Ables (Art Payne) of Clinton, MS, as well as many dear nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS.Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM.A reception at Lighthouse Baptist Church will follow Christian Burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
