Charles Wendell McKenzie died Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Merit Health-River Region Medical Center. He was 81. Born in Maben, MS, he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas McKenzie and Beatrice Clyde McKenzie. He had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both active duty and in reserve. He retired from International Paper in 2007 after 38 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Erma Luline McKenzie, Wilodean Pate, and Lorene Morgan and four brothers: Thomas Harold McKenzie, Clovis Lamar McKenzie, Gerald Cecil McKenzie, and Clyde Donald McKenzie.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louise Porter McKenzie; two sons, Charles Wendell McKenzie, Jr. (Deborah) and Clyde Lamar McKenzie; a brother, Carl McKenzie (Helen); a sister, Shirley Ward; and a grandson, Morgan Charles McKenzie.
Services will be at 2 PM Friday, November 26, 2021 at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue in Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be from Noon until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Yokena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Bryant, Justin Bryant, Chris Ables, Charlie Montague, Gerald W. McKenzie, Robert Hulett, and Leon Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Wong and Charlie James.
