It is with great sadness that we announce that Cyrena Catherine Downing passed away on February 4, 2024 at the age of 62. She was a 1979 graduate of Warren Central High School. She attended Hinds Community College before working at various jobs in Vicksburg.

She loved music, flowers and decorating her small cottage in Vicksburg. While she was not able to get   out much, she loved talking on the phone and laughing with friends and family. Before her eyesight failed, she was an avid seamstress, and gifted friends and family with special handmade items. She loved to cook and was dedicated to preparing delicious meals for our father to ensure he was well fed. Cyrena was dearly loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Cyrena is survived by her sister, Lydia Downing Kendall (James) of Boyle, MS; and her nieces, Virginia Lauren Mitchell (Andrew) of Starkville, MS, and Shelby Kendall Branning (Dustin) of Brandon, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents George C. Downing and Virginia F. Downing.

The family thanks all the sitters, nurses and care givers that tended to Cyrena at her home before she
passed. A memorial service is planned for later this Spring.
