Obituary

Diane Louis Cook “Granny”, 69, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. Diane was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose love extended to many she considered her own.

She was preceded in death by her partner mother, Mary M. Hampton Raney and her father Robert E. Raney Sr.; her partner James D. Smar; her brothers, William H. Raney, John H. Raney, and Robert “Bobby” E. Raney Jr.; and her grandson, James R. “JR” Cook III.

Diane leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her three sons James R. “Randy” Cook II, Brody L. (Paige) Cook, and Derek L. Raney (Katy Burleigh). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Kristofer (Kylie), Dakota (Will), Emilee, Sawyer, Bayleigh, William, Elizabeth, Evie, and Brantley; each of whom she adored and supported in their own unique ways. She also leaves behind one great-granddaughter, Leighton E. Cook.

Diane’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She cherished her many nieces and nephews, and she opened her heart and home to countless children that she considered her own. Her life was defined by generosity, loyalty, and fierce devotion to the people she loved.

Her family will remember her for her strength, her humor, her stubbornness when it mattered, and the way she made every person feel like they belonged.

Diane’s legacy lives on in the stories she told, the lesson that she taught, and the love she gave without hesitation.

A celebration of Diane’s life and love will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at  Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue  with Bert Bryant officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Ashlea Raney, Jeremy Williams, Joshua Reeves, Zack Branan, Colby Ashley, and Henry Irwin.

Honorary Pallbearers: Derek Raney, Brody Cook, Randy Cook, Kristofer Cook, William Raney, Brantley Burleigh, Danny Chester, Jimmy Chester, and Mike Carpenter (in memorium)
