“Dot” Griffith
November 16, 1926 – July 25, 2024
Dorothy "Dot" Brown Griffith passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on July 25th, 2024, at the age of 97.
Dot was born November 16,1926 and was a life-long resident of Vicksburg, Miss. She was affectionally known as "Maw" to all of those who met her. She graduated from Redwood High School in 1944. Maw was a devoted wife of 56 years to her late husband Melvin, the love of her life. Maw loved spending time with her family, watching her grand and great-grandchildrenplay sports. She was extremely active by going to the gym multiple days a week and cutting her own grass until the age of 93. Maw was always up for an adventure. As a child, she loved following behind her father and swinging on the vines through the Redwood hills. She enjoyed traveling, white-water rafting,hunting and fishing with family as well as gardening.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Melvin "Paw" Griffith; daughter Iva Elizabeth "Beth" Griffith Luckett; sisters Ina Lillian Fowler Beesley and Grace Scott; brothers Richard "Bill" Brown, Donald Brown, and George Brown, Sr.
Maw is survived by her daughter Jerre Landers; sons Tommy Griffith (Jeanine) and Andy Griffith (Francis); grandchildren Ben Luckett (Kristy), Scott Landers (Allison), Brandon Landers, Marilyn Sherman (Tommy), Beth Griffith, Kelle Sprayberry (Greg), Dale Griffith, and Drew Griffith; great-grandchildren Reagan Landers, Kalista Butler, Bryleigh Landers, MasonLanders, Gracie Luckett, Jake Landers and Leon Sprayberry, as well as numerous niece and nephews.
Visitation will be at Fisher – Riles Funeral Home, Saturday, July 27th from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Services will begin immediately after the visitation followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Officiating is Pastor Ben Luckett.
Pallbearers are Scott Landers, Brandon Landers, Dale Griffith, Drew Griffith, Tommy Sherman, Chuck Luckett and Greg Sprayberry.
The family would like to give a special thanks to caregivers Mary Johnson, Rosie Hampton and the staff of Gentiva Hospicefor their care and support over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church.
