Elvin Leon
Nevels, Jr.
January 21, 1960 – February 1, 2026
Elvin Leon Nevels Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday February 1, 2026 surrounded by family. Elvin was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, MS. He attended Warren Central High School and worked briefly at Midd-West after high school. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
As a lifelong lover of sports, especially football, Elvin was known for his devotion to the Warren Central Vikings. He would often travel with the WCSO deputies to games, both home and away, to cheer for "His Vikings" and the Big Blue Band. As his health faded, his unwavering faith and devotion for the Vikings did not. He would listen to WC football games every Friday night on the radio and update family and friends of the score. Thankfully, he was able to listen to the Vikings win the State Championship this year and was ecstatic about their victory for weeks. He was just as passionate about the New Orleans Saints. Sundays were filled with Saints updates, cheers, and game time discussions.
Beyond sports, Elvin was known for his big heart. He loved to talk and help others around the house. His loyalty to his teams and the people he loved defined him.
He is survived by his father, Elvin "Leon" Nevels, Sr.; four sisters: Angela Nevels, Cathy Nevels, Barbara Acuff, (Jimmy), and Peggy Cousins (Tommy); two brothers, Larry Nevels and Steven Boston; eight nephews: Tony Bulluck (Stephanie), James Acuff, Jr. (Clara), Jameson Hughes, David Acuff, Shane Acuff, Trinity Emrick, Buster Boston, and Brandon Boston; ten nieces: Sheina Lassalle (Pierre), Shonda Morson (Jason), Mistie Mason (Quint), Christie Sanderford (Michael Paul), Destiny Emrick, Ashley Acuff, Lela Rainey (Andy), Rachel Campbell (Jamie), Melissa O'Brien (Chris), and Jennifer Dollar. Along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his step mother, Bobbie Nevels, his mother, Dorothy Bourg; two sisters, Debbie Wyatt and Cindy Emrick; and two brothers, JW Nevels, Jr. and Gary Nevels.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 6 at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue in Vicksburg. Visitation will be from 9 AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Bulluck, James Acuff, Jr., David Acuff, Shane Acuff, Tommy Cousins, Ford Emery, and Sheriff Martin Pace. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Morson, Braxton Morson, Brayson Morson, Quint Mason, Lyndon Davis, Corbin Acuff, and Jullien Bulluck.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Adoration Hospice for the care and comfort they provided during this difficult time, the Warren County Sheriff's Office, and deputies for their unwavering support throughout the years, and the coaches and staff at Warren Central High School.
