Emily Gary Mitchell passed away at the age of 95 on December 2, 2019. She was born in Vicksburg, MS on January 8, 1924 to the late Herman and Leona Gary. Emily was also predeceased by her brother Hank Gary, her sister Janice Gary Taylor, as well as Jim and Ann Hanks.
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier High Academy in 1942, Emily served her country for 2 years in the Marine Corps. Upon completion of her service, she enrolled in the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1956. Emily later worked at Waterways Experiment Station as an information specialist before retiring in 1990. Emily thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years at her beloved home at Lake Claiborne. She relished time spent with her friends and her extended family golfing, fishing, and working in her beautifully kept yard. She was a devout and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Emily is survived by her nieces Kathy Venteciola, Sissy Kopycinski, Trisha Sanguinetta, and nephew Patrick Taylor. She is also survived by her Hanks family, Charlene H. Hughes, Sissy Kern, Buddy (Jane) Hanks, Sharon Hanks, Bubba (Linda) Hanks, Rick (Dutch) Hanks, Bill (Bonnie) Hanks, Tina (Steve) Parris, and Maudie (Mike) Ellis. "Aunt Em" also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved "kids", Leslie Dee, Skeet Hanks, Missy Giles, goddaughter, Tracey Dantin, Lori Tzotzolas, Woody Hanks, Robbie Hanks, Chris Hanks, Ricky Hanks, Kayla Elmore, Elizabeth Ramirez, Caroline Stuckey, Andy Ellis, and Nicole Ellison, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and her much loved "Train" family.
Emily loved completely and was completely loved in return. Her joyful presence, her beaming smile, and her beautiful soul will forever be missed by our family.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Port Gibson, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the church.
