Obituary

Dr. Emma Pauline Keulegan was found deceased at her home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.  She was born in Washington, DC, on January 21, 1930, the only child of Dr. Garbis Hovannes Keulegan and Nellie Virginia Moore Keulegan.  The Keulegan's moved to Vicksburg in 1963.

Making the decision in the fifth grade to become a special education teacher, Dr. Keulegan lived out her dream for forty-two years.  When she came to Vicksburg, there were no special education classes so she taught regular classes at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and Jett Elementary School.  She was a member of the team that created the special education criteria for Warren County.  Once the program was established, she began teaching at Cedars Elementary School and later J.H. Culkin Academy.

Dr. Keulegan was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.  She was a member and past officer of a number of lineage societies including the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Society Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Magna Carta Dames and Barons, National Society Southern Dames of America, United States Daughters of 1812 and the Vicksburg Genealogical Society.

Dr. Keulegan was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a life member of the Altar Society.
