Obituary

Frederick Walter Rosser, age 62, died at home in Vicksburg, MS, on September 20, 2020.

Fred was born in Nashville, TN, and grew up in Kingsport, TN. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport and earned his B.A. in chemistry from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC.  He worked in the commercial nuclear industry as a health physicist for approximately 40 years.

Fred began his career at Hatch Nuclear in Vidalia, GA.  In 1983, he started working at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, MS, where he met his wife, Sheila McGee.  They married in 1988.  Fred left Grand Gulf for 5 years and was employed at Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, in Michigan.  He resumed working at Grand Gulf in 1992 and was employed there as a Nuclear Health Physics Specialist at his death.

Fred and Sheila were devoted to animal rescue and horseback riding.  Fred enjoyed woodworking, building models of various tanks and aircraft, reading, bicycling, and kiting. He was also an auto enthusiast.  Fred was of the Lutheran faith.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, James K. and Ruth-Marie Schaedlich Rosser; and his brother, Thomas Bernard Rosser; all of Fayetteville, NC.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of Vicksburg; aunts, Jane Warfel Rosser and Melba Rosser of Fayetteville; and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue, in Vicksburg.  Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Fisher-Riles Chapel.
