George Lea Walters went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.  He was 78.  He was born in Gloster, MS to the late Herbert and Ella Mae Walters.  He had been a resident of Vicksburg for most of his adult life.  He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam.  He retired from Marathon Letourneau as an accountant in payroll.  He was a member of Goodrum Baptist Church;  he enjoyed teaching Sunday School over his entire adult life.  He enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, and researching family geneology and doing historical research.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Steel Houston and Herbert Sibley Walters.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Imogene Walters; four sons:  Richard I. Walters (Diane) of Clinton, MS; David E. Walters of Vicksburg; Hershel C. Walters of Worcester, MA; and Kevin L. Walters (Brandy) of Farmington, MO; a daughter, Teresa Marie Johnson (Stephen) of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren:  Justin Walters, Rachael Walters, Samuel Johnson, Christie Hogue, Rebekah (Ben) Johnson, Tania Garst, Bruce Walters, Riley Walters, and Aiden Walters; and one great-grandchild Presley Cook.

Services will be 11 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Goodrum Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Monk officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 AM until the hour of service at the church.  Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be Jacob Hogue, Samuel Johnson, Stephen Johnson,  Drew Beard, Logan Beard, and Ken Lumbley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dane Davenport and James Davidson.
