Obituary

Hazel Florence Jessie (Stone) Hazzlerigg died peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, at St. Dominic Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 99.  Hazel was born in Abercromby, Liverpool, England. At the age of 3, Hazel's mother died and her Granny took her in for a time. Eventually Hazel was put in a foster home of an older couple. Hazel remembered being in London when England was bombed by the Nazis, having to go into air raid shelters, and never knowing what would be facing her on the streets afterwards. World War II had a major impact on her life:  She met and married a US soldier, came to the United States with a ship full of other war brides and children along with her 3-month old 1st child (Tina). Hazel quickly adapted to her new home and country and later became a naturalized citizen.  Hazel loved gardening, music, dancing and making others laugh. She joined the Methodist Church and was an active member all her life in Vicksburg, Jackson and Ridgeland. Hazel worked as a bookkeeper for her then-husband's automotive garage in Vicksburg. After relocating to Jackson, she worked for the Capital City Petroleum Club and later the Miss. Employment Security Commission.

Hazel was predeceased by her parents William R. Stone and Florence Annie (Nannette) (Howe) Stone of Liverpool, England, and her brother Raymon Stone of Somerset, England. She was also predeceased by a grandchild Erik Raymon Dykes and triplet great grandchildren Lindsey Jane, Jackson Gerald, and James Tyler Dykes. Hazel is survived by Tina (Dick) Grau of Madison, MS; Shirley (nickname Angel) (Jim) Thomason of Peachtree City, GA; and Ed (Cathy) Hazzlerigg of Las Vegas, NV and West Palm Beach, FL.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
