Inez Ashley Elwart, 72, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away on March 27, 2020 at home in Vicksburg.
Visitation will be at 9:00 AM on June 27, 2020 in the chapel at Fisher Funeral Home, 1830 Cherry St., in downtown Vicksburg. Funeral services will be held after visitation at 10 AM in the Fisher Funeral Home chapel. Reverend Joe Harris, Jr. of Pleasant Valley M.B. Church will be officiating. Cremains burial will immediately follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Inez Elwart was born in Vicksburg to Bill & Mary Ashley on July 15, 1947. She was a graduate of Redwood High School. She married Jessie Barrett on January 20, 1967 in Vicksburg. She later married Steve Elwart on August 20, 1980 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Inez was a graduate of Redwood High School and worked for many years writing insurance for the Robert Emmich Insurance Agency, then became a full-time mother to her five children. She was very active in the Scouting Movement, having served the Andrew Jackson Council as a den leader, pack leader, and events chair. She was honored for her work with youth by being awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts of America. For several years she was also active the United States Jaycees.
Inez Elwart is preceded in death by her parents, William Madison (Bill) and Mary Rowe Ashley, sisters Virginia (Willie) Curtis and Betty Lou (Marvin) Winstead and twin brother William Calvin Ashley.
She is survived by her husband Steve, her children Joey (Mia) Barrett, Brandy Adele Elwart, Paul Elwart, Jason (Tammy) Barrett, and Richard Elwart. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Jessie, Jaden, Jackson, Ashley, Duncan, and Logan (Max) as well and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Billie Ruth (Eddie) DiTucci and William Edward (Judy) Ashley.
Honorary pallbearers are Janice Strawn, Denise Hluska, and Pamela May.
The family of Inez Elwart wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Drs. Dawinder Singh Sohal and John Donald Adams as well as the staff at the Fresenius dialysis center in Delta, LA and the Kindred Hospice of Vicksburg for the extraordinary care they gave Inez during her illness.
