Jacqueline Selby
Labarre
June 24, 1929 – December 18, 2024
Jacqueline Selby LaBarre (Jackie) passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 18, 2024. She was 95. Jackie was born in Vicksburg, June 24, 1929, to Robert Selby, Jr. and Jacqueline Haralson Selby. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg. With the exception of short stays in New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, Oxford Mississippi, and Memphis, TN, she spent her entire life in Vicksburg. She was married to Judge Oscar P. LaBarre, until his death in 2001. During her long marriage she supported her husband in his work, kept a home, and went about the business of raising her children, and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a young woman, she was active in community groups, principally the Hester Flowers Garden Club, and the Junior Auxiliary. Later, and for years, she owned and operated "The Porch" a popular gift shop on Clay Street. An avid bridge player, Jackie took pleasure in organizing bridge groups wherever she happened to find herself. She not only loved to play bridge, she also used her gifts to teach the game to countless people. Jackie was, first and foremost, a committed and passionate Christian, whose deeply held beliefs she shared boldly. She considered her faith the most important part of her life. For as long as she was able, she was involved not only in her church, but in other prayer and Bible study groups as well.
In addition to her parents and her brother, Robert H. Selby, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, Judge Oscar P. LaBarre. She leaves behind four children: sons, Oscar P. (Put) LaBarre Ill (and wife, Patt); Robert S. (Bob) LaBarre (and wife, Betty); William R. (Bill) LaBarre (and wife Edye); and a daughter Lois LaBarre Wilson (and husband, Butch). She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jac) Wilson McManus (Jason), Martha Wilson Adams (Scott), Seth LaBarre (Ashley), Philip LaBarre (Grace), Brian LaBarre (Susan), Selby LaBarre (Clarissa), Benjamin LaBarre (Kristy), Robert LaBarre (Angelia), Anna LaBarre, Azee LaBarre (Cheyenne), and Mary Katherine LaBarre Lantrip (Daniel); and 18 great-grandchildren.
A worship service celebrating Jackie's life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Nathaniel Stamper, officiating. Family and friends are also welcome to Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Graveside service and interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery will commence at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be: Butch Wilson, Brian LaBarre, Philip LaBarre, Robert LaBarre, Selby LaBarre, Seth LaBarre, Azee LaBarre, and Benjamin LaBarre.
