Obituary

Jimmy Lamar Baker, age 73, passed away at home on February 14, 2026. Jimmy was born on December 15, 1952, in Greenville, to the late Howard Baker and Helen Hunnicutt. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Bill Hunnicutt, and his brother, Johnny Wayne Baker.

In August 1972, Jimmy proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully as an SP5 Power Generation Equipment Operator until November 1975. During his years of service, he was deployed to Germany for 2-1/2 years and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Jimmy carried the values of dedication, discipline, and quiet strength he learned in the Army with him throughout his life. Following his honorable discharge, Jimmy began a long and respected career with Entergy in 1977. He worked as a control room operator until his retirement in 2015. Over nearly four decades, he was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and commitment to doing his job well.

Above all, Jimmy was a devoted family man. He loved his children above anything else and was always just a phone call away for anything John and Nancy needed. On Friday nights, he was at the football field cheering on his son John and grandson Victor as they coached and played for St. Joseph Catholic School - Greenville. He knew the game well and was never shy about sharing his thoughts with John. Throughout the years, you could also find him sitting quietly in the bleachers at nearly every sport Victor played, waiting patiently to greet him at the end of the game. Many times, Zoelynn was right there beside him. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and dedicated his life to serving and supporting them in every way he could.

He is survived by his son, John Baker and daughter-in-love, Christy; his daughter, Nancy Baker; his sisters, Barbara East (Ernest) and Betty Jones (Roger); his brothers, James Baker and Joseph Baker (Heather); and his cherished grandchildren, Victor Baker and Zoelynn Baker. He took great pride in his family and found his greatest joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Jimmy will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty, his quiet resilience, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy of service, hard work, and devotion will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 18th at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.
