October 4, 1933 – November 6, 2020
JoAnn Herrin was born October 4, 1933 to Jesse and Lanna Morgan in Mobile, Alabama. She grew up in Mobile, graduating from Murphy High School. For several years JoAnn worked as an X-ray technician prior to joining the Army Corps of Engineers where she worked for 31 years, retiring in 2005. For many years she loved to crochet, making beautiful afghans and blankets for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. JoAnn was an extremely active member of the Mississippi Order of the Eastern Star, Hyland Chapter 56 in Vicksburg. Currently she held the position of MWGM Special Appointment to Campfire Friend in Mississippi. She really enjoyed getting together with her friends in the local chapter and traveling around the country to meet new people.
JoAnn is survived by her two sons, George L. Herrin, Jr. (Pamela Herrin) and James L. Herrin (Stacy Herrin), four grandchildren, John C. Herrin, Jesse D. Herrin (Megan Herrin), James R. Herrin (Abi Herrin) and Katherine M. DelBosque (Raphael DelBosque); and four great-grandchildren Landon, Julia, Kase, and Allison. She was a strong supporter of her family and always did everything she could to help her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JoAnn passed away in her sleep on November 6, 2020 at her home. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 12 at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. A graveside service for family and close friends will be conducted at Mobile Memorial Garden Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
