John Logan
Given Jr
December 3, 1940 – April 10, 2024
John Logan Given, Jr. passed away on April 10, 2024 at Merit Health in Vicksburg, MS. He was born on December 3, 1940 to the late John Logan Given, Sr. and Mary Clyde Logue Given. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and received college education from several institutions including Draughons Business College, Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University. Mr. Given worked over forty years at the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks before retiring from his position as Lead Systems Administrator in the Information Systems Division.
Mr. Given was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church. His hobbies included woodworking and genealogy as well as collecting a repairing clocks. He enjoyed working with his tractor, learning new skills, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren whom he considered his greatest joy.
Mr. Given leaves behind a son, Joseph Paul Given; and a daughter, Holly Marie Given Bokros and her husband Shawn; and four grandchildren, Mary Adeline Bokros, Brody Bokros, John Clyde Bokros, and Brendan Bokros. He also leaves his brother, Patrick Given, husband of Kay Given and his sister, Margaret Given Baylot, wife of Robert Baylot.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Emily Given Couch and Jeanette Given Ledbetter as well as his grandchild, Jacob C. Bokros and other family members.
Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Fisher- Riles Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30. Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 11:00 and a Graveside service will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
