Joseph Horvath
November 2, 1931 – June 7, 2024
John(Janos) Joseph Horvath, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on 6/7/2024, to
complications of pneumonia and other lung issues. He was born on November 2, 1931
in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.
During the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, John escaped to Austria and eventually made
his way to the U.S., arriving at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. Two days later, he arrived by
train in Akron, Ohio.
John had been employed with General Electric Co. and Honeywell International in
past years as a computer engineer.
He retired to Vicksburg, Ms. in 1993 and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, especially
the hummingbirds. He also enjoyed growing Hungarian peppers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, and numerous other nieces.
He was a simple man and always said, "I did it my way," from the Frank Sinatra song.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12 from 10 to 11 AM at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Ave. with services to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Salvation Army" or "St. Jude Children's
Hospital" in Memphis, Tn.
