John Gary (Pete) Peterson died on Friday, February 4, 2022. He was 90. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Clarence John (C.J.) and Irene Peterson on March 3, 1931. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lynn Peterson and Robert Peterson.
John was a business entrepreneur, professional engineer, and true renaissance man. He was President of Peterson Filters Inc. of Salt Lake City for many years. This company was originally founded in 1943 by his father, C.J. Peterson and older brother, Lynn Peterson. John also founded and was the first President of Vicksburg Engineering & Manufacturing (VEM) in Vicksburg, Mississippi which began operation in 1991. He had a great passion for engineering & business.
John was truly amazing in his pursuit of a vast array of interests. He enjoyed outdoor sports including fishing, skiing , and golf. John was a competitive shooter & marksman, a tournament-level chess player, a skilled artist and photographer, a lover and owner of many high performance motorcycles, a competitive sailer of the Flying Junior (FJ) sailboat, and a private pilot who flew his favorite plane, the Mooney, all over the United States.
John is survived by his beloved wife and co-pilot of 71 years, Mrs. Nancy Peterson, their three sons; John L. Peterson, Mark L. Peterson, and Glen C. Peterson, along with their wives, children, and grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at the Fisher-Riles Funeral home at 5000 Indiana Ave, Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00pm - 2:00 followed by the service at 2:00pm.
