Johnnie Ray Finkbeiner, age 92, died May 5, 2021, in Vicksburg, MS. She was born June 16, 1928, to Douglas Ray Griffin and Grace Viola Dean Griffin, in Monroe, LA.
She attended Ouachita Parish Schools and The University of Louisiana at Monroe studying Education and Library Science.
She was a full-time homemaker most of her life. She worked as the librarian at the Monroe News Star and wrote a feature column on local history. She was a volunteer at the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. She was an avid reader, tennis player, and bowler. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and singing, spending time with family and friends. Vacationing in Yellowstone Park was one of her favorite past times.
She was a member of the 1993 National Championship Senior Women's Doubles Tennis Team. She was a lifelong Baptist, attending various churches in northeast Louisiana, including Ridge Avenue Baptist in West Monroe, and Central Baptist Church in Monroe.
She leaves five children: Charles Dean "Butch" Finkbeiner, Joe Ray "Buddy" Finkbeiner ( Diane) Beverly Ann Rice (George), Theodore "Ted" Finkbeiner III (Pam), and Patrick Wayne Finkbeiner (Kim).
Grandchildren : Brian Finkbeiner, Michael Finkbeiner, Dustin Ray Flowers, Darel Finkbeiner (Christine), Carol Jones (Quinton), Josh Finkbeiner (Jenelle), Jesse Finkbeiner (Danelle), Paris Finkbeiner
Great Grandchildren: Teddy Finkbeiner, Elisabeth Finkbeiner Winters (Jonathan), Daniel Finkbeiner, Jonathan Finkbeiner, Jamie Lumpkins, Ashley King, Liam King, Emily Finkbeiner, Caleb Finkbeiner, Laura Finkbeiner, and Keelan Ray Flowers, and one great-great granddaughter Lily Winters.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Theodore Finkbeiner, Jr; her younger brother Ellis Dean Griffin of Fort Worth, TX; daughter-in-law Marilyn Finkbeiner; granddaughter Lisa Marie Finkbeiner; daughter-in-law Sandy Finkbeiner; sister-in-law Delores Thornton; brother-in-law Charles Finkbeiner.
Services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue, in Vicksburg, MS, with visitation from 12 noon until 1 o'clock, memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
