Joyce Juanita
Houston
March 14, 1939 – April 8, 2026
Joyce Juanita Houston, 87, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Deer Park, Texas. Born on
March 14, 1939, in Silver City, Mississippi, Juanita lived a life of faithfulness, kindness, and love.
She had many wonderful friends in Vicksburg where she lived for 59 years.
A woman of deep faith and commitment to Christ, Juanita was an active member of Highland
Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and found joy in
nurturing the spiritual growth of many young women and mothers. She especially loved
children and served as a Kindergarten teacher. Her dedication extended beyond the church
walls as a volunteer with the Auxiliary at Merit Health River Region and through her
involvement with Gideon's International and River City Mission alongside her husband. Juanita
treasured the fellowship of her Friday lunch group and Sunday School class. Her most earnest
desire in these last days was to go home and the family rejoices that she is finally at home with
her Lord.
Juanita was a devoted wife to her late husband, Don Houston, and a loving mother to her son
Todd Houston and his wife Dawn Houston of LaPorte, Texas, as well as her daughter Wendy
Houston Collier and her husband Bryan Collier of Tupelo. She cherished her role as a
grandmother to Garrett Houston, Brett Houston (Emily), Kyle Houston, Nam Houston, Olivia
Collier Weeden (Ross), and Houston Collier. She also loved to boast of her four great
grandchildren. Juanita shared a close bond with her sister Sherlie Shanks and they lived
together for the last 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Don, her sister Nancy
Cotton and parents JB and Hattie Mae Ross.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at Fisher Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana
