Obituary

Juanita Lewis Shaw, longtime resident of Vicksburg, died following a lengthy illness on Christmas Eve, 2021. She was 82.  During her life she served many roles – daughter, sister, employee, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.  She loved and cared for her family, her friends, her church, and her dogs.  Following her retirement from the US Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in 2001 after 25 years of service, she enjoyed purchasing and furnishing a historic home in downtown Vicksburg, she painted, she sewed, she was an avid reader, and she volunteered in the nursery, Sunday school, youth program, as secretary and sang in the choir for her church, Crossway Baptist (formerly Bowmar Avenue Baptist).

She was preceded in death by

Her mother, Catherine Lewis Lentz of Vicksburg

Her sister, Kay Haynes of Jackson

Her son, Randy Shaw of Vicksburg

Survivors include

Her daughter, Kathy Smedt of Los Gatos, California

Her brother, Harvey Lewis of Livingston, Montana

Four grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews

In a small family graveside service on February 6, she was buried at Cedar Hills Cemetery, surrounded by loved ones who went before her.

She will always live in loving memory in our hearts.
