December 20, 1941 – September 19, 2021
Rev. Kuhrman Kay Cox went to be with Jesus on Sunday, 19 September 2021. Kuhrman was born on 20 December 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kuhrman and his family moved to Vicksburg, MS in December 1991. He was the Son of the late (Father) Shelby Gilbert Cox and (Mother) Ilda Belle Barth Cox. Kuhrman was one of four children and is proceeded in death by his oldest brother: Shelby Robert Cox.
Kuhrman attended Trevecca Nazarene College to receive a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. He then attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary to receive a Master of Divinity in 1988. He ministered in 4 churches during his 42 years of pastoring: St. Joseph, MO, Rockwood, TN, Carthage, TN and 18 of those years in Vicksburg, MS.
Kuhrman was a Pastor at the First Church of the Nazarene here in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was also a Chaplain at the following locations part-time: Letourneau Marine Corporation (Vicksburg, MS), Anderson Tully Lumber Company (Vicksburg, MS), and Pilgrims Food Service (Jackson, MS) and Barnhardt Crane (Jackson, MS). Kuhrman retired from the First Church of the Nazarene in 2010. Kuhrman then retired from his various Chaplain positions in 2016.
Kuhrman's hobbies included playing golf, reading a book, fishing with his granddaughter, watching the Atlanta Braves Baseball, putting together jigsaw puzzles or working sudoku, spending time with his church family at church camp, Thanksgiving with his family and extended family. Time with his family was always precious to Kuhrman even if all he did was listen to them talk.
Kuhrman is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Royece Parsons Cox; his son, Andrew Cox of Vicksburg; his daughter, Cynthia Kay (Rusty) Goodwin of Vicksburg; one identical twin brother, Norman Ray (Zilpha) Cox of Old Hickory, TN; one sister, Claudine Elaine Roberts of Rockwood, TN; one granddaughter, Victoria Paige Talbott of Vicksburg, MS.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kuhrman Cox on Friday, 24 September 2021 at the First Church of the Nazarene at 2:30pm on 3428 Wisconsin Avenue in Vicksburg, MS.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Kuhrman's memory to Camp Garner Creek (Retreat Center) at 700 Sam Hollow Road, Dickson, TN 37055.
