Lonnie L. Friar of Vicksburg, Miss.,died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at his home. He was 80.
Mr. Friarserved in theU.S. Navy and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. An avid outdoorsman, he taught the hunters education class for 25 years. He was a founding member of the Deer Park Hunting Club, where he served as secretary and treasurer. He served on the board of the Letourneau Volunteer Fire Department and waspresident of the Redbone Cemetery Association.
Mr. Friar was a former employee of Westinghouse and a retiree of Waterways Experiment Station. He was a loving husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie B. Friar; his mother, Elnora Wright Friar; and a sister, Willie Brent.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn B. Friar of Vicksburg; a son, Michael Allen of Vicksburg; two daughters, Melissa Haas (Sam), and Melanie Dixon (Stewart), all of Vicksburg; and seven grandchildren, Tre Haas, Tyler Haas, Travis Haas, Sean Dixon, Mirannda Dixon, Kathy Allen and Montrell Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014,at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Redbone United Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m.until the time of the service Friday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Sean Dixon, Montrell Allen, Tyler Haas, Tre Haas, Travis Haas, Chris Boggan and Tracy Tullos. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Parker, BuddyRather, Todd Flanagan, Harvey Landers and Coy D. Flanagan, and all members past and presentof the Deer Park Hunting Club.
