Martha Louise Haney Martin passed away after a brief illness on November 25, 2023. She was born on December 29, 1928, in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Capt. Samuel Franklin Haney and Frances Elouise Wood Haney, a sister, Mary Alice Haney, a brother, Hiram Jackson Haney Sr., and her husband, Wallace William Martin.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Martin Clark, and Susan Denise Martin Kitchens (John Fred), four grandchildren, Alice Careth Kitchens of Gautier, Mississippi, Sandra Kathryn Kitchens Fairley (Joshua Ronald), Liz Clark Testa (Vinnie), all of Vicksburg, and Will Clark (Sarah) of Ridgeland, Mississippi, along with four great grandchildren, Joshua Cade Fairley and Evella Kathryn Fairley of Vicksburg and Wesley Scott Clark and Olivia Martin Clark of Ridgeland. She is also survived by three sisters, Nancy Jane Haney Carr, Sammie Elouise Haney, and Peggy Jeanne Standifird all of Vicksburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Martin grew up in Warren County and graduated from Carr Central High School in 1946. She attended Hinds Community College and Mississippi College. She taught kindergarten and later became the Director of the First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg Kindergarten. She was involved with Girl Scouts and led several Vicksburg Girl Scout troops. Mrs. Martin loved the outdoors and spent much of her time horseback riding, gardening, camping, hunting, and fishing with her husband of over fifty years. She and her sisters created cherished, and sometimes funny memories, on their "Sisters' Trips" around the United States. She was a lifelong and avid member of the First Presbyterian Church and cherished her time with the children she taught for over 37 years.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm on Saturday, December 2 followed by a memorial service in the chapel at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home on Indiana Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Paws Rescue, or Dianne Gargaro's Rescue account at Woodland Animal Clinic as animal rescue was dear to her heart.
