MARY KATHRYN FAHERTY LAWLER
Kathryn Lawler died peacefully at St. Catherine's Village on May 22, 2023. A Funeral Mass will
be celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi on Thursday, May 25, 2023
at 2:00 p.m.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Kathryn graduated from St. Agnes Academy and attended The
University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. After her marriage to
Edward Earl Lawler, the couple made their home in Vicksburg for the next sixty years. Kathryn
was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and served on St. Paul's Altar Society. Her other
community activities included Junior Auxiliary, Samplers Antique Club, and The Hester Flowers
Garden Club, which she served as president.
In 1974, Kathryn began her career at The Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, transferring to
Waterways Experiment Station (WES) in 1980. Kathryn continued as Management Analyst in
the Resource Management Office until her retirement. During that time she was appointed and
served on the Supervisory Committee of the Board of Directors of Mutual Credit Union in
Vicksburg before moving to Jackson with her husband in 2010. Following the death of her
husband in 2011, Kathryn moved to St. Catherine's Village.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Edward Earl Lawler, Sr.; her parents Elizabeth
Agnes Faherty and Frank Patrick Faherty; brothers Frank P. Faherty and Michael W. Faherty;
sister Patricia F. Hosemann; and grandson Kevin Tyler Lawler. She is survived by her sons
Edward Earl Lawler, Jr. (Susan) of Jackson, Mississippi and Raymond Kyle Lawler (Michelle) of
Hobe Sound, Florida; her daughter Mary Kathryn Lawler Shell (Randy) of Houston, Texas; and
her sister Jean F. Griffin of San Clemente, California. Additional survivors include her
grandchildren: Layson Lawler Denney (William); William Coleman Lawler (Elise); Janeanna
Shell Heath (Landon); James Randall Shell (Peyton); and great grandchildren Edward Field
Denney, Henry Catching Denney and Brice Layson Denney, as well as many cherished nieces,
nephews and their families.
