Mavis McMillan Wilson died Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She was 87. A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was daughter of Ernest G. and Gladys McMillan. She was a 1951 graduate of Jett High School and worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses, including the West Jackson/Vicksburg district of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Good Shepherd Center. She was a devoted member of Redbone United Methodist Church for most of her life, serving as church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and various offices in the United Methodist Women's Group, including state secretary. She was an avid quilter and donated many quilts to the Haven House.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley B. Wilson; a son, Wesley Alan Wilson; two sisters, Joyce Evans and Sandra Crevitt.
She is survived by her son, Dan E. Wilson (Pamela) of Vicksburg; her daughter, Judy Chamberlain also of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Charles Wilson (Christy), Keith Earl Wilson, Deann Hill (Charles), Joseph G. Wilson (Jessica), and Afton H. Riles (Daniel); and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, February 24 at Redbone United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Wilson, Keith Wilson, Charles Hill, Joseph Wilson, and Daniel Riles. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Redbone United Methodist Church, 43 Burnt House Road, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
