Monnie Kathleen
Emerson
April 4, 1957 – June 10, 2024
Monnie Kathleen Emerson nee Fletcher affectionately known as Kathy, departed this earthly life on June 10th 2024. She was born on April 4th, 1957 in Georgetown, South Carolina to the late Jerry and Betty Fletcher. Kathy relocated to Vicksburg with her family when her father moved for his career. Kathy received her formative education in Vicksburg and graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1975.
She was the youngest of two children with an older sister Janet whom she adored and who adored her in return. They shared an amazing relationship where their love for each other knew no bounds and was evident if you ever saw them together or heard them speak of each other. They were each other's support system and confidantes.
Kathy was married to the love of her life Ray Emerson for 48 years. Kathy and Ray were like Ying and Yang; when you saw one you saw the other. Ray was Kathy's best friend and her soulmate. She was happiest when they were spending time together doing the most mundane things such as enjoying dinner at their favorite Mexican restaurant; him with his usual order and her with a jumbo margarita. She was a devoted wife and Ray was the center of her world.
Kathy was a doting cat parent, she adored and cared for every cat that came their way, whether she chose them or Ray showed up with a box of kittens. They were her fur babies and she loved them.
Kathy was especially loved by her nephews Adrian and Jeremy who she lovingly referred to as "her boys". She was proud of them and always spoke highly of them to anyone that would listen. She was a huge fan of the Phoebus High School football team where Jeremy is the Head Coach and would be sure to mention to the broadcast staff in the comments section on social media that Coach Blunt was her nephew. Kathy was adored by her great nephews and niece who knew her as their "Mimi"- a role she cherished.
When thinking of Kathy it's hard not to think of the word "love." Kathy loved fiercely and deeply. She was protective of those she considered "hers" and made sure she always told her family and friends that she loved them. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and made sure to send a card for every birthday, anniversary, and holiday. Her creativity and fun-loving spirit could often be seen in the gifts she made for family and friends such as her annual calendar. She held a special place in her heart for her girlfriends-The Ya-Ya's- and cherished the memories they created during their beach trips and hanging out on her porch.
Kathy's absence is already being felt by those who loved her. Her loving and feisty spirit will always be cherished by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her loving husband Ray, her nephews Adrian and Jeremy, nieces-in-love Duanita and Staysi, great nephews Joelle, Aiden and David, and great niece Gabrielle. She will be remembered fondly by her work family at Crocker Dental and Trinity Baptist as well as a host of family, close friends, and co-workers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 24 at Trinity Baptist Church.
