Obituary

Raybon "Ray" L. Steed Sr. passed away April 26th, 2024 in Vicksburg, MS at the age of 81. He was born in Attala County to Louie and Vera (Holmes) Steed. He graduated from Zama High school. He worked for the KCS/ Illinois Central Railroad for over 30 years as an engineer before retiring. Ray enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, and fishing while making lots of memories at the family deer camp working in his shop and working in his garden. Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg.

Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years Carol (Barlow) Steed of Vicksburg, his daughter Kathy (Billy) McDonald and son Ray (Tammy) Steed Jr., his grandchildren Haley, Brandon, and Ryan Steed, Wesley (Logan), Shannon (Allison), and Keaton (Morgen) McDonald and his 3 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his 2 brothers Roy and Eldridge (Etheline) Steed and 2 brother-in-laws Humphrey and Bobby (Mickey) Barlow  along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents Louie and Vera (Holmes) Steed and his brother Troy Steed.

Pallbearers will be Brandon and Ryan Steed, Wesley, Shannon, and Keaton McDonald, and Gage Ederington.

A visitation service in honor of Ray's life will be held Wednesday May 1st, 2024 at 10am at Fisher- Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Ave. Vicksburg, MS 39180 with a graveside service to follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery at 11am.
