Obituary

Richard Allan (Dick) Sager, Sr., age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.

Dick was born in Cardwell, Montana on October 4, 1934, to Henry Bascum (H.B.) Sager and Margaret Mac Innes Sager. His childhood was spent primarily in Grand Junction, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he graduated in 1956.  While in college, he completed both the structural and hydraulic options of Civil Engineering.  He was drafted in the United States Army in 1957.  Dick was sent to Vicksburg, Mississippi to work at the Waterways Experiment Station (WES). His main assignment was in cratering of nuclear weapons.  After he was discharged from the army, he chose to stay on at WES as a civilian employee.  He transferred to the Hydraulic Engineering Lab, where he remained until he retired in 1997.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Jamison Sager; father, H.B. Sager; mother, Margaret Sager; brother, Don Sager; sisters, Jean Cox-Lovell, and Mary Lou Bratton.

He is survived by his children, Margaret (Tommy) Baker of Vicksburg, MS, Amy (Brad) Taylor of Spanish Fort, AL and Rick Sager of Laurel, MS; grandchildren, Chase Hanes, Chad Hanes, Emily Taylor, Lauren Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Kara Christian, Sarah Grace Berry, Sydney Sager and Mary Sager.

He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Sager Whitmore of Aurora, Colorado; brothers, Bill (Cheryl) Sager of Lolo, Montana, and Bob (Rena) Sager of White Silver Springs, Montana; Sisters-In-Law, Diana Jamison Brooks of Madison, MS and Patsy Jamison (Walter) Brown of Natchez, MS, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 PM at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home 5000 Indiana Avenue.  Funeral Services will follow immediately at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Mincer Minor officiating.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS for their amazing care and support at the end of Dick's life here on earth.
