Obituary

Robert Dudley Barnette, of Eagle Lake, died Sunday, July 29, 2018, due to injuries sustained in an accident. He was 65.

Born in Benton, MS on October 1, 1952, Mr. Barnette spent most of his life in Vicksburg, where he was a 1970 graduate of Warren Central High School. After graduation, he joined the Army and served as a Military Policeman.He received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service 1973-1974 while in Italy.He worked at Waterways Experiment Station in the Quality Geotechnical Lab Testing for soil and received the Quality Increase Award in 1977. He also earned a degree in Electricity and Wiring from Hinds Community College.He spent the rest of his career at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant before retiring in 2012.

Mr. Barnette enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, baseball and softball.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde D. Barnette; his mother, Gladys G. Barnette; his brother Bobby E. Barnette, and his sister Carolyn B. Wilkerson.

He is survived by his daughter Michelle Barnette Young (Ray) of Moss Point, Miss.; his son Robert Jason Barnette of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Bettye B. Oakes (Donald) of Vicksburg; Janice Parker of Olive Branch; and Tricia Ross (Stanley) of Brandon; five brothers, Milford Barnette (Elfriede) of Edwards; Billy Barnette of West Point; Doug Barnette (Linda Jane) of Muncie, IN.; Terry Barnette (Angie) of Pearl; James Barnette of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren, Hannah, Megan and Mary Irwin of Moss Point, Deidre Young , Hattiesburg, C.J. Barnette , Starkville, MS and Maverick Barnette of Cincinnati, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be at Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg on August 3, 2018 at 5pm with Pastor Mitch Cochran officiating. Visitation will take place before the service, beginning at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Batson Children's Hospital.
