Ruth Vicknair Buckner died Friday, October 4, 2019, at her residence.She was 94.Born in Reserve, LA, she was the daughter of the late Edward Francois Vicknair and Aurore Madere Vicknair.
Mrs. Buckner attended LSU business school and worked in her husband's CPA firm until her retirement in 1980 to become a full time homemaker.She enjoyed golfing and was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies Golf Association at the Vicksburg Country Club.She also enjoyed playing and teaching bridge, achieving the status of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.One of her joys was fishing for bream with her grandchildren.Spending summers at Lake Bruin she would catch, clean and cook the fish for her entire family.Her passion was entertaining and cooking for her family and friends and for special events.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Buckner, Jr.; son, Edward A. "Bucky" Buckner, III; brothers, Lawrence Vicknair and Edward Vicknair; sisters, Lezian Waguespack, Lucille Landry, Yolande Thibodaux, Edna Reine, Berrenise Madere, Dorothy Marchand, Ruby Binning and Audrey Borne.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Buckner Hall (Jerry) and Sue Buckner Whitaker (Danny); son William Percy "Billy" Buckner (Cherry); grandchildren, Edward A. "Eddie" Buckner, IV (Megan), Michael Buckner Hall (Lindsay), Angela Brooke Carley, Erin Claire Buckner, Devin Buckner Banchero (Chris), and Susan Hall Blake (Paul); great grandchildren, Jacob Able Carley, Bailey Nicole Somerville, Addie Shaw Buckner, Ruth Anne Buckner, Stella Louise Buckner, Porter Lane Banchero, Katherine Louise Blake, Shephard Christopher Banchero and Michael Lawrence Blake; sister, Miriam Vicknair Hymel; and brother-in-law, William Ellis (Bill) Buckner.
Graveside services will be at noon, Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Father Patrick Curley officiating.Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Edward A. "Eddie" Buckner, IV, Michael Buckner Hall, Paul Pacific Blake, Christopher John Banchero, Jacob Able Carley, Nathan Ellis Buckner, Harry Nadler Buckner and Louis Buckner, Jr.
