Thomas D.
Hutto
November 3, 1941 – May 14, 2022
Thomas D. Hutto was born Nov. 3, 1941, to Grady and Susie Wilson Hutto in Yazoo County, MS. He passed away at the age of 80 years in The Bluffs Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility on May 14, 2022.
He taught mathematics at H. V. Cooper High School and Hinds Community College Vicksburg Branch. He retired in Jan. 1995 from Waterways Experiment Station where he was a mathematician for 27 years.
His love for children contributed to his coaching little league baseball and volunteer coaching little boys football at Porters Chapel Academy. He himself played basketball and softball in Vicksburg and made himself many life-long friends. He was a bowler and very active in the Men's Bowling Association. He also bowled with his wife, Jackie, in a couples league.
He enjoyed deer hunting and squirrel hunting, but his real joy was in fishing, from setting out and running trot lines, camping and fishing the Mississippi River sandbars, to fishing off his pier on Eagle Lake.
He loved his garden that Jackie referred to as truck farming. It always turned out to be much more than a garden.
At one time he was infamous for his "Letters to the Editor" contributions. He was opinionated and never hesitated stating his views. Although he respected others opinions, he would rather argue with the devil himself just to keep a lively debate going. He usually would end by shrugging a "maybe." A fellow co-worker would good-naturedly address him as "agitator" whenever he saw Tommy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Hutto Bishop. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jackie Sanders Hutto. He was a devoted father to Kevin Hutto, Michelle H. Bynum, Judy L. Keller and Jerry Lamb. He leaves behind multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He has a surviving sister, Patsy H. Brantley, and a brother, Henry (Cindy) Hutto and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Bill Downs of Benton, Humphrey Barlow, Raymond Joyner, Monty McGuffie, Trey Logue, Willie Hughes and Mickie Mott.
Honorary pallbearers are Kathy Marr, Marie Downs, Andrea Hughes, Charles Nelson and Travis Joyner.
Funeral Services are Wednesday, May 18, at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Ave. with visitation beginning at 10:00, then a service in the chapel at 11:00 officiated by Tommy Miller. After the service a procession will then proceed to Cedar Hill Cemetery for interment.
