Thomas Edward "Ed" Pharr Jr., 76, died on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Merit Health River Region from complications due to long-term illnesses.
Born in the Airmount community of Yalobusha County, Miss., Mr. Pharr spent most of his life in VIcksburg. He was a 1962 graduate of Jett High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball for the Bulldogs. In his professional life, he held various positions for LeTourneau in Texas and Mississippi before taking a turn at farming in the Yokena community just south of Vicksburg. Later, as the owner of Pharr Trucking Co. Inc., his job took him on many adventures out West. An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved introducing family and friends to the National Parks, wildlife and other interesting sites he found along his journeys. He also enjoyed antique cars, sports and storytelling at various reunions — whether for his large extended family, classmates or beloved LeTourneau community.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Edward Pharr Sr. and his brother, Johnny Lee Pharr.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Edward Pharr III, of VIcksburg; his daughter, Natalie (Bill) Pittman and two granddaughters, Anna and Caroline Pittman, all of Hattiesburg; his mother Mary Alice Pharr; three sisters, Sandra (Bob) Hollingsworth, Janie (Mike) Kavanaugh, and Mary Joyce (Gary) Grant; all of VIcksburg; two brothers, Larry (Cheryl) Pharr, of Hewitt, Texas, and Bobby (Susan) Pharr, of VIcksburg; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
