"Buddy" Reeves
June 2, 1941 – January 21, 2026
William H. "Buddy" Reeves, 84, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. He was born at home near Sturgis, MS on June 2, 1941, the son of the late Bester L. Reeves and Eula Miller Reeves.
His family moved to Vicksburg when he was two years old. He was a graduate of H.V. Cooper High School, Hinds Junior College, and received his degree from Mississippi State University in Civil Engineering. He went to work for the Vicksburg District of the Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi river Commission, holding varying positions of increasing responsibility, also teaching in many government programs. He taught photography classes at Hinds Community College and belonged to the Vicksburg Photography Club. He was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church, taking and sharing many photos of various church activities.
Buddy is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Mary Frances (Callaham) Reeves of Vicksburg; his children, Beth Rambo (Dicky) of Columbus, MS and Melissa Wooten (Barry) of Hattiesburg; his grandchildren, Tim Summers, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Alex Wooten of Greenville, SC, and numerous extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his sister, Barbia Jean Reaves and son-in-love Barry Wooten.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 29 at Hawkins United Methodist Church in Vicksburg. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the hour of service.
