December 9, 1942 – January 13, 2025
William Harris Mounger, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 9, 1942, to William (Billy) Harris Mounger, Sr. and Ethel McBee Mounger, Bill lived a life defined by humility, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family, faith, and community.
Bill is survived by his cherished wife, Denise, whom he adored above all else, and their children: son Will Mounger (Monica), and daughters Caroline Mounger, Emily Jensen (Gary), and Mary Kathryn Sciarretta (Jason). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cash Hernandez, Smith Jensen, Collier Jensen, Mosley Jensen, Luca Sciarretta, Leo Sciarretta, Nico Sciarretta, Christian Jamison, Caitlin Mounger, and Briggs Mounger. Bill is also survived by his brother, Dalton Mounger (Roben) and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Ethel Mounger; his brother, Harbour Mounger; and his son, Alex Mounger.
Bill received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Mississippi where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He built a distinguished career in banking, dedicating 33 years to the Trust Departments of Deposit Guaranty National Bank and its successors. Following his retirement, he continued his legal career with public service, serving for 10 years as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Mississippi Attorney General's Office and 11 years as a contract attorney for the Division of Medicaid.
Bill's commitment to his community was evident through his service. He spent six years on the Madison County School Board and was a member and past president of a number of organizations including the North Jackson Lions Club, the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi, and the Vicksburg Storehouse Community Food Pantry, where he was also a longtime volunteer. Additionally, he dedicated his time to Meals on Wheels and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg. He served as an officer of the Vicksburg-Warren and Yazoo Counties Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Bill was a passionate supporter of Ole Miss athletics, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his beloved Rebels. He found great joy in family gatherings and traveling. His humility, selflessness, and devotion to others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Bill's life was a testament to love and service to others. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of life service will be held February 21, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1501 Cherry Street, Vicksburg MS 39180.
