William S. "Steve" Cook, Sr. died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Merit Health Medical Center.He was 90.Born in Yazoo County, Steve was the son of Eddie Leo Cook, Sr. and Corene Cook.He was a graduate of Satartia High School, Copiah Lincoln Junior College, and Mississippi State University.Steve has been a resident of Vicksburg since 1952.He worked as mill manager for Valley Mills and personnel manager for McGraw Edison.He opened Cook Tractor Company in 1988.He was a charter member of Port City Kiwanis and a former member of
Gideons International. He served as moderator for the Warren County Baptist Association and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he served in all areas of lay leadership.
In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a sister Ethel Cook Oakes and a brother, George Cook, both formerly of Jacksonville, FL.Survivors include his wife, Mattie Cook; two sons, William Steve Cook, Jr. (Pam) of Vicksburg and Ronald Glen Cook (Linda) of Pensacola, FL; his daughter, Susan Cook Sullivan (Lt. Colonel Garrett Sullivan) of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren:William "Billy" Cook (Karen) of Houston, MS, Adam Cook (Karla) of Vicksburg, Daniel Cook (Deidra) of Vicksburg, Russell Cook (Stacy) of Natchez, MS, Corene Sullivan Kelly (Cody) of League City, TX, Carmen Cook of Pensacola, FL, Courtney Cook Tidwell (Sean) of Pensacola, FL, Jay Sullivan of Thibadeaux, LA, and Ryan Sullivan of San Antonio, TX; eight great-grandchildren:Emily Cook, Steven Cook, A.J. Cook, Carter Cook, Olivia Cook, Coy Cook, Christian Kelly, and Collins Cook; a brother, Eddie Leo Cook (Janelle) of Vicksburg, and a sister Irene Sanders (John) of Terry, MS.
Services will be 11 AM Monday, July 1, 2019 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Harris officiating.Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at the church.Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Billy Cook, Adam Cook, Daniel Cook, Russell Cook, Jay Sullivan, and Ryan Sullivan.Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Kelly, Sean Tidwell, Timmy Lampkin, Pat Daughtry, Billy Bratcher, Phil Griffin, Jack Gillis, Steven McGee, Buddy Hollowell, Don Gould, John Arnold, Barry Beard, Steve Cooper, James Edwards, Scott McClellan, Mike Robinson, Ricky Tew, Bobby Richardson, and Bill Thornton.The family would like to express special appreciation to his caregiver, Henrine Nichols.
