Winford Ray
"Bubba" Taylor, Jr.
September 18, 1949 – May 18, 2023
Winford Ray "Bubba" Taylor, Jr. passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 . He was the son of the late Ray Taylor, Sr. and Dollie Mae Hearn Taylor. He is survived by two sisters, Loretta Taylor Thames and Becky Taylor Ellis (James A.); two nieces, Cyndi Preacher and Kristi Ellis Bordelon; two nephews, Kevin Conrad (Sheila) and Kirk Conrad (Brenda).
Bubba never went to school, he was always labeled "slow" and he was slow but he learned a lot about life. He had to walk everywhere he went. He loved to help people. He loved everyone, even after he lost his sight. If anyone called his name he stretched out his hand for a handshake. Bubba was born in 1949, there was "no child left behind" program. He learned to write his name and he knew his numbers. He also had a memory like an elephant. I could call and ask if he remembered "the girl that use to live next door" when I was a teenager and he could usually remember. Bubba was fortunate to have his brother- in -law James take time with him, took him fishing and was with him when he shot a deer and another time when he shot a rabbit running. He only had a quarter size vision but if anything ran across that spot Bubba could hit it. He loved his nephews, Kevin and Kirk and they loved him and tried to spend time with him. Kevin let him cut grass with him and only a few times did he get in a ditch or fence. Kirk, James, Kevin taught him to play pool. Sister Becky brought him home from the nursing home and kept him for a year during Covid. He required a lot of at that time and she paid with her health. He was the center of our family and was greatly loved by everyone he knew. He will be missed. I would have loved to be in heaven the day he left this world to see him walk through heavens gate. Glory be to God he isn't blind, or deaf, or slow minded. His speech is perfect and he can walk and run.
Visitation will be held from Noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue, with the Rev. Greg Frazier officiating. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
