Yvonne Nicola was born on March 8, 1932, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the second of four daughters to Wadie and Latifie Nicola. At the age of 90 she passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022, at Heritage Nursing Home. Ms. Nicola a life time resident of Vicksburg; graduated from Carr Central High School in 1949. She then pursued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi. After returning to Vicksburg, she was credit manger for Bushes Jewelry Store. In 1967 she became the bookkeeper for Karl's Haberdashery and was employed there until she retired at the age of 65.
Ms. Nicola moved to Heritage Retirement Center in 2017 where she participated in most activities. Her greatest enjoyment was walking. She was known as the "Walking Lady" by the residents and staff.
Yvonne was a life-time member of St George Antiochian Orthodox Church where she served on the Church Council and served as secretary of the Church Council. She taught Sunday School and worked on the Lebanese dinner for 50 years. She loved her church and her church family.
Ms. Nicola was proceeded in death by her parents Wadie and Latifie Nicola, her sister Diana Nicola Farris, and brother-in laws Johnnie Farris and Frank Logue. She is survived by her sisters Joy Nicola Logue of Vicksburg and Sandra Nicola Evans (Alan) of Clinton. She is also survived by her nephews John Wade "Bo" Farris (Libby) of Oxford, Dr. Omar Logue of Ridgeland, Kahlil Logue (Heather) of Vicksburg, her nieces Donna Farris Hardy (Rick) of Vicksburg, Becky Farris Collins (Rick) of Arlington, TX, as well as, numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church followed by Trisagion prayers at 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Services will be conducted by Fr. Gabriel Karam of St. George and Fr. Herman Lasseter of St. Peter. Interment will be held at City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Omar Logue, Kahlil Logue and her great- nephews Brian Richardson, John David Richardson, Russell Bennett, Brandon Peterson, and Daniel Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Batson Children's Hospital, or your favorite charity.
Funeral is under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.
