Valera Meacham Vollor departed this life on July 15, 2017 at the age of 104. She was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on December 27, 1912. Valera was predeceased by her husband, William Joseph Vollor; her sons, Rev. William Joseph Vollor, Jr. and Rev. John Cathel Vollor; her daughter, Valera Vollor Derivaux; one granddaughter, Michelle Derivaux; and one great-grandson, Donald Joseph Derivaux, Jr. She is also predeceased by her parents, William Matthew Meacham and Jennie Kemper Meacham; her brothers, Kemper Meacham, Ty Meacham, Wayne Meacham; and her sisters, Merle Rodgers, Jeanette Middlebrooks, and Maude Wilson. Valera is survived by two sons, Timothy Wayne (Wanda) Vollor, and Frank Gallagher (Teri) Vollor; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Valera graduated from All Saints College and Mississippi College. She was married for twenty four years to William Joseph Vollor and, after the death of her husband, she taught second grade at St. Francis Xavier Academy. She was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and for many years she also helped prepare the children for their First Communion. Valera moved to St. Catherine Village in 2004 where she continued to enjoy family visits and the prayerful community life of St. Catherine's residents and staff. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Lalor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Pallbearers will be grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family would request any memorial donations be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Catherine Village or Vicksburg Catholic School.
